The work is an auditory experience of past and present memory that takes us into the exotic nights of the wild bush lands of Australia, where we are confronted by nature. The landscape is entwined with the rare and magical encounter of a very large bat (Flying Fox).
The Flying Fox is now an endangered species in Australia due to climate change where soaring temperatures during summer months have cause mass deaths.
6 – channel sound installation uses both field recording from a flying fox colony in northern NSW, Australia and studio recordings of flapping and swung objects. The composition combines these sound recordings that are played in an ambisonic environment where sound travels circular in a darkened space to simulate the flying fox moving around the space.
